Human service professionals play many roles in the industry. They may be involved in:
- Counselling, supporting, and protecting people, and in helping people to access services and supports that they need
- Developing new services or improving existing services
- Managing conflict and crisis situations
- Trying to build strong relationships in groups and communities, and in community education
- Implementing public policies and making organisations and service systems work more effectively, efficiently and fairly
- Research to underpin policy, service provision and professional practice
