Human service professionals play many roles in the industry. They may be involved in:

  • Counselling, supporting, and protecting people, and in helping people to access services and supports that they need
  • Developing new services or improving existing services
  • Managing conflict and crisis situations
  • Trying to build strong relationships in groups and communities, and in community education
  • Implementing public policies and making organisations and service systems work more effectively, efficiently and fairly
  • Research to underpin policy, service provision and professional practice
